Thought for the Week   Wrapping Up Topic 2: Probability Concepts and the Normal Distribution This week, we will be wrapping up our study of topic 2.  In this topic, we talked about how to calculate the likelihood of certain events happening.  At the beginning of this week, we will talk about how the probability of events can be connected to the "normal" curve.  We will talk about some new probability concepts such as "standard deviation" and the "empirical rule" as it applies to "normal distribution".  Students will wrap up their study of topic 2 with a summative assessment during our third class for the week.  Our summative assessment will include three different learning targets: Communication, Application, and Procedure.  As a reminder, summative assessments will account for 45% of a student's grade and we do not offer a retake as a separate event.  However, for every few topics, students will be assessed using a "benchmark".  ...

Thought for the Week   Topic 2: Probability and the Normal Distribution This week, we will continue our study of probability.  We will talk about how to find the probability of compound events, or multiple events happening at once.  We will also talk about how to find the probability of events when order matters and when order doesn't  matter.  Think about a locker combination....when we spin the dial to choose the 3 numbers to open the lock, order matters.  When we order a pizza that has cheese, green peppers, and pepperoni the order that we list the toppings doesn't  matter as long as all three toppings appear on our pizza.

Thought for the Week Upcoming North Events Wrapping Up Topic 1 This week, we will wrap up our study of Arithmetic and Geometric sequences and series.  We will conclude topic 1 with a formative assessment during class on our third class period of the week.  During our last class of the week, we will dive into the topic 2 overview where we will begin investigating probability.

Hello Algebra 2 Students!  Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! My name is Mrs. Kamenar and I will be working with you during your Algebra 2 class this year. This year, I am starting my 19th year teaching math and computer science at Waukesha North. This year I will be teaching Algebra 2 Math, App Development 1, AP Computer Science Principles, Programming the Web 1, and Yearbook. In addition to teaching, I am also the head women's cross-country coach and yearbook advisor. I hope that everyone was able to find some time to relax this summer. My summer included a few camping trips with my family, playing with my kids, hiking, running, and playing with my dog Ranger. My goal is to keep you up to date with what's going on in the classroom through this blog. Between the blog and our class schedule of events that will be posted on our BlackBoard class website, it is my hope that all students and parents will be informed about what's going on in the classroom whether we are lear...
