Thought for the Week Our first quarter will end on November 3rd.  Please keep the following quote in mind as you look to finish the first part of the year and make goals for the next. I am here to help support you in achieving your goals! Topic 5: Analyzing Polynomial Functions We are almost through our first quarter of the year, so during class on Monday, students will have the opportunity to reflect on their celebrations and set some goals as we move into the next part of our school year. Once we have had some time to reflect, we will move into our fifth topic of the year.  To start off the unit, we will take a look at the different shapes of graphs that polynomial functions can produce.  Students will learn how to identify a 'point of inflection' as well as determine if a graph is 'concave up' or 'concave down'.   In our previous unit, students had a chance to engage with the material with a "Total Physical Response".  Basically, we were able to c...

Thought for the Week Modified Schedule This Week This week, we will have school Monday-Wednesday, with Wednesday as an early release day.  On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we will see all eight classes. Wrapping Up Topic 4: An Introduction to Polynomial Studies This week, we will wrap up our fourth topic of the year.  On Monday, students will work in small groups on a "Constructed Response" activity and start working on a review assignment.  Students will complete their fourth summative of the year during class on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thought for the Week   Topic 4: An Introduction to Polynomial Functions This week, we will continue with our study of polynomials.  We will spend more time simplifying, multiplying, and graphing functions.  After we get a firm grasp on how to graph, we will spend time analyzing them.  Students will learn about absolute maximums and minimums and be able to compare them to local  maximums and minimums.  We will also talk about the behavior of a graph, including how to determine where a graph is increasing  and where it is decreasing .

Thought for the Week Topic 4: An Introduction to Polynomial Studies This week, we will start our fourth topic of the year where we will spend a lot of time studying polynomials.  Since it has probably been a while since our students have worked with these functions, we will begin this week by reviewing how to simplify, factor, and graph polynomials.  Once we have reviewed this information, we will dive into our fourth topic where we will examine linear, quadratic, and exponential equations.

Thought for the Week Homecoming Events Check out the plan for our Homecoming events for the week. Topic 3: Design and Data Collection in Statistical Studies This week, we will take a further look at how data can be collected and analyzed in order to make statements about a larger population.  We will talk about observational studies as wel as experiments.  This is a very short unit.  Students will be completing their benchmark  assessment during our last class for the week.
