Thought for the Week     Wrapping Up Topic 6: Benchmark Assessment! This week, we will spend some time preparing for our benchmark assessment.  This assessment will include the concepts that we learned about during topics 4-6.  Essentially, everything is based on analyzing different types of polynomials.  Throughout this unit, we explored how to find the zeros, or solutions, to polynomial functions.  We have discussed end behavior, degree, even and odd functions, and how to determine where a function is increasing and decreasing.  We have discussed several methods for solving polynomials including: Graphing Factoring Greatest Common Factor Trinomials (Box Method) Difference of Squares Difference of Cubes Sum of Cubes Quadratic Formula Division  Long Division Synthetic Division Complex Numbers: a+bi Real Part: a Imaginary Part: bi Imaginary Numbers: i This week, we will prepare for our benchmark for the first three days of the week and complete the...

Thought for the Week Topic 6: Polynomials This week, we will continue with our study of polynomials.  The major focus for the week will be on solving quadratic equations as well as complex numbers.  Students will learn how to determine if a quadratic has 2 real solutions, 1 real solution, or 2 complex (imaginary) solutions.  Students will also be able to find all solutions for an equation by graphing, factoring, and using the quadratic formula.

Thought for the Week   Wrapping Up Topic 5: Analyzing Polynomial Functions This week we will wrap up our fifth topic of the year on polynomial functions.  We will spend Monday's class talking more about higher degree polynomials and Tuesday's class talking about binomial expansion.  We will complete our summative assessment during our third class for the week.  In order to help students prepare for the summative, I have created a 'one-pager' document and a review.  Students who have completed their notes, homework, and review materials should be ready to complete the summative.  Students who have questions are invited to come in for extra help before school or during JIT.
