What's Going On? October 30th through November 3rd

 Thought for the Week

Our first quarter will end on November 3rd.  Please keep the following quote in mind as you look to finish the first part of the year and make goals for the next. I am here to help support you in achieving your goals!

Topic 5: Analyzing Polynomial Functions

We are almost through our first quarter of the year, so during class on Monday, students will have the opportunity to reflect on their celebrations and set some goals as we move into the next part of our school year.

Once we have had some time to reflect, we will move into our fifth topic of the year.  To start off the unit, we will take a look at the different shapes of graphs that polynomial functions can produce.  Students will learn how to identify a 'point of inflection' as well as determine if a graph is 'concave up' or 'concave down'.

In our previous unit, students had a chance to engage with the material with a "Total Physical Response".  Basically, we were able to create a very short "dance" to show off our understanding of the shape of linear, quadratic, and cubic functions.  This concept will be very important in this unit as we further learn about end behavior. the degree of a polynomial, and how to identify the real zeros.
